MICHIGAN VENUES
WE LOVE

2017 Top 5 Picks | Michigan Venues We've Filmed!

We had the opportunity to visit some really awesome places in 2017! Wedding venues are one of the FIRST things a couple decides on for their Wedding Day. The venue really sets the overall theme and mood for your wedding film. Here are our Top 5 Picks out of all of the weddings we filmed this year!

6. Honorable Mention: The Stone House: A Maltese Castle

We have to put this venue at #6 because it was not a 2017 venue. But we had to throw it on the list because it is one of the coolest places we have filmed a wedding at! Located in Lexington, MI (our own backyard) this place was built by the Bride's family years ago out of the sand and stones from Lake Huron. Its is available to tour in the Spring and can be rented. It even has a convenient rental property across the street for the groom to get ready in as well! There are so many features on this property that make The Stone House truly unique and historical. APAR Rentals does a fabulous job managing this property and you won't be disappointed.

5. Holy Cross Church | Marine City, MI

This Church is absolutely beautiful! Located on the shores of Lake Huron overlooking the water, Holy Cross is a beautiful place to have your ceremony. The interior and cathedral ceilings make for some really beautiful shots. The organ takes up the entire loft in the church, it is massive! The stained glass windows really illuminate the altar creating plenty of light for photo and video and make for some stunning lens flares. The aisle is very long, and there is plenty of room on each side for multiple angles. We have filmed two weddings here and both Father Rooney & Father Bechill are amazing speakers. This has been one of our favorite churches to film in because of its beauty and it's open concept for filming.

4. Solitude Links | Fort Gratiot, MI

Solitude Links Golf Center & Banquet Hall is a great indoor/outdoor venue. It's great when you can match your reception and your ceremony all in once place! It has a beautiful outdoor patio/gazebo area for your ceremony, a beautiful waterfall for your family photo session and a wrap-around outdoor porch, overlooking the rolling hills of the course. Not to mention the entire course is filled with photo/video opportunities! They let us take three carts out and explore the property for an intimate bride & groom shoot. There is a long wooden bridge over a large lake-like pond, rolling hills of tall grass, and plenty of wooded areas to create some really interesting poses. We also stayed out long enough for the fog to roll in, which was incredible to see!

3. Packard Proving Grounds | Shelby Township, MI

I can't say enough about Packard Proving Grounds! We LOVE this venue. We have filmed two weddings here and can't wait to go back! The venue itself is historical in nature, so weddings here tend to have somewhat of a vintage theme. Make sure you get permission to go the car garage. It has an industrial feel and it has all of the old cars displayed. You can have you ceremony outside under the tree-lined driveway, or inside the Lodge Garage. We got some really great shots of the groom getting ready in the lodge itself. The reception hall has beautiful hanging string lights, and a gorgeous chandelier made out of gears! We still haven't made it to the back of the property where there is a high-rise gazebo. Hopefully next time we can make it back there for sunset!

2. Aurora Cellars | Lake Leelanau, MI

Aurora Cellars in Northern Michigan was incredible! They have two main wedding locations on site. We filmed near the back of the property. This spot had it all! First, it had a HUGE farmhouse where the bridal party got ready and stayed for the weekend (which is awesome when your decorating and planning things the night before). It also had an outside bar and tented reception location next to a small winding river. This was only a few feet away from a giant weeping willow tree where you can have your ceremony. YES! YES! YES! We love weddings where everything is centrally located. Not to mention, the entire vineyard was only a few steps away. Northern Michigan is such beautiful a beautiful place in general, but Aurora Cellars takes the cake this year!

Cheers to you and thanks for having us!

1. The Inn at Stonecliffe| Mackinac Island

We've finally reached #1 for this year! We were so excited to be able to travel to Mackinac Island this year and the Stonecliffe throughly impressed us. We were lucky enough to have Jake & Brooke ask us to capture their day for them and we are unbelievably thankful! This is what it's all about for us: adventurous souls & captivating films. First, we took an amazing ferry ride to to the island and we stayed on location at the Stonecliffe. You have to take a carriage ride there (there are no vehicles on the Island) but we were daring and hiked uphill with our gear (we wouldn't do that again...take a carriage, it's worth it). The Stonecliffe is a historical mansion located on the west coast of the island, making it an ideal sunset spot. It has a few different locations to have your ceremony with the main reception area (The Bridgeview Tent) overlooking the Straits of Mackinac. We filmed the ceremony location at the Woodland Grotto. It's a private area down in the woods near a small pond and a fountain. Make sure you take a short hike back into the woods towards the water. There is a stone balcony overlooking the lake and it's an ideal place for sunset! Go into town and make sure you check out all of the local shops, bars and eateries. This by far was one of our FAVORITE venues! We hope to go back sometime very, very soon.
